Reporting to: Engineering Manager

Purpose of the Role:

As a RF Microwave Engineer, your design work fully captures the requirements of the customer (with any exceptions being documented) whilst also ensuring that manufacturing information allows the device to be efficiently and effectively realised.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Report to the Microwave Engineering Manager
  • Support technical and application solution enquires and be the customer voice during this stage
  • To carry out the design and development of microwave waveguide components (typically to 40GHz), assemblies and subsystems (e.g., Rojos, Slotted Antennas, Power Combiners, Loop Couplers etc…)
  • To verify designs by the appropriate means (such as calculation, simulation, similarity and read across, or hard model prototypes) as per the agreed specification
  • To complete the necessary documentation (such as compliance matrix, design review, acceptance test procedure, reports), in accordance with Company procedures
  • To carry out technical investigations to provide data for problem solving, design improvements and support the development of solutions to technical issues
  • To validate initial product by test according to the agreed acceptance test procedure
  • To provide technical advice and support for production activities with regard to troubleshooting during electrical test
  • Project management and assistance in the planning and project review of new product developments
  • To review new technologies, appropriate to business needs
  • To strive continually for improvement and enhance the current electrical design and development capabilities of the Company products
  • Develop and maintain good customer relationships
  • Provide support to the Sylatech marketing team and help with the development of promotional campaigns and other activities that will help in the recognition of the Company
  • Attend trade shows and industry networking events
  • Be available to support in-territory sales visits which will include overseas travel on occasion
  • Prepare technical presentations and proposals when developing new business opportunities for the Company

Personal Specification:

Qualifications/Education/Training

  • Degree qualification in Electronics/Electrical/Physics or similar or equivalent discipline in Microwave Design of passive components engineering degree or
  • Qualification by experience, with a desire to develop

  • An understanding of manufacturing processes
  • Design principles – design for manufacture, process limitations
  • Design principles – understanding of environmental conditions (temp, humidity, shock, vibration, galvanic action) and how these may impact on design and performance
  • Geometric tolerancing
  • Experience of design tools, HFSS and CST
  • Experience of working in a test environment
