Purpose of the role

In this role, you will support the development of machine shop employees by delivering practical training, coaching and skills assessments across CNC machining, safe working practices, quality standards and production processes. You will help new starters and existing team members build capability, confidence and consistency while supporting operational performance in a busy precision engineering environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Support structured onboarding, skills development and refresher training across agreed machine shop processes.
  • Assess competence, maintain training records and provide clear feedback to trainees and line managers.
  • Promote safe working, quality standards, good housekeeping and consistent use of production documentation.
  • Work closely with production leaders, engineers and quality teams to identify skills gaps and support continuous improvement.

What we are looking for

You will be an experienced machine shop professional with strong CNC knowledge, excellent communication skills and the confidence to coach others in a practical manufacturing environment.

Required abilities

  • Strong CNC machining experience within a precision engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Practical knowledge of machining processes, tooling, fixtures, inspection methods and engineering drawings.
  • Ability to train, coach and support people with different levels of experience.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to explain technical information in a practical, accessible way.
  • Good IT and administration skills for maintaining training records and competence evidence.
  • Strong attention to detail, organisation and commitment to quality standards.
  • Commitment to health, safety, housekeeping and continuous improvement.

Desirable abilities

  • Experience delivering workplace training, mentoring apprentices or supporting structured skills development programmes.
  • Training, assessing or coaching qualifications, or experience with multi-axis machining, Renishaw probing systems or aerospace/defence quality requirements.

Working pattern

Working hours will be agreed in line with business and training needs. Flexibility may be required to support employees across different shift patterns, including days, nights or weekend teams where appropriate. Shift allowances may apply depending on the agreed working pattern.

What we offer

  • Competitive pay aligned with experience and the responsibilities of the role, plus applicable shift premiums where relevant.
  • Permanent employment with a growing advanced manufacturing business.
  • Opportunity to shape machine shop training, support career development and make a direct impact on operational capability.
  • Company pension, enhanced holiday entitlement, sickness benefits and death in service.
  • Structured onboarding, development support and career progression opportunities.
  • Employee referral bonus, free onsite parking, Cycle to Work scheme and possible relocation or travel support.

Why join us

This is an opportunity to use your machine shop expertise to develop others, strengthen operational standards and help build the next generation of skilled manufacturing talent. You will become part of a team focused on quality, teamwork, safety and continuous improvement.
